Rock climbing is an activity in which a person climbs up, down or traverses a vertical platform.
There are several types of rock climbing:
- Gym climbing
- Sports climbing
- Traditional climbing
- Deep Water Soloing (DWS)
- Free Soloing
- Top rope climbing
- Ice climbing
- Via Ferrata
I do it cause I can blog will feature almost all of the climbing styles.
Each style requires its own set of gear and equipment. As gear is a wide topic, I will list the basic kit for starters.
All climbing styles except DWS, bouldering and free soloing require:
- Safety sling
- Security anchors (placements)
- First aid kit
- Lighter, 3m length of 1.5mm cord & emergency blanket
All styles require climbing shoes, chalk and helmet.
If you are looking for an action sport to boost your confidence, overcome your weaknesses, and conquer your fears, rock climbing is the right activity for you.
One of the greatest qualities of rock climbing is working with a partner. You have to trust your partner and they need to trust you, otherwise, you’ll put your partner and yourself at risk.
