5 STEPS TO GET OVER YOUR FEAR OF BUNGEE JUMPING

In the following blog post about bungee jumping, I will give you 5 simple steps to apply for getting over your fear of bungee jumping.

I believe everyone should feel the sensation that bungee jumping gives you.

The steps are steps I often apply to my adventure and to doing new things. Enjoy!

1. DON’T BREATH

Come on!!! It is no secret that to release stress is to breathe slowly. Countless scientific studies and researches prove the effectiveness of breathing technique. So calm yourself by breathing. Inhale slowly, until you feel your chest is touching the sky, and exhale even slower. The secret is in repeating. Breathing slowly will lower your heart rate. Hence your stress levels will be reduced.

2. LOOK DOWN

Yeah why not! I’m serious. People function differently, some like to know what’s going on, while others don’t. I for instance, am more motivated to jump if I see what I am jumping over or into. Others are simply terrified by looking over an edge. So if you are the latter, just don’t look down. Focus your sight to the sky or to an idle subject in front of you.

3. THINK OF A HORROR MOVIE

Many would start bringing some horrifying thoughts, as if it is what they need at such experience!

Obviously if you have already thought of jumping, you are interested. So don’t let excuses, especially ones based on some Hollywood movie preventing you from jumping.

You might argue statistics show some death rates, yes they do; about 2 in a million would die while bungee jumping. On another hand, if you drive over 100km/h you have a lot higher chance of dying by a car accident. Wait, this stat is even better: 1 in 100,000 would die in dance parties!!!
(Some nice funny stats here http://www.besthealthdegrees.com/health-risks/)

4. COUNT BACKWARD 3, 2, 1 JUMP!!!

One of the most effective ways to make a decisions is to count backward. Based on The 5 Second Rule book by Mel Robbins, this rule is freaking awesome!! The author goes on and on about all the scientific proofs on how the brains function while counting down. In summary, if you count backward from 5 to 1, your brain will automatically commits to an action.

However, I learnt throughout my action sports to count from 3, it is just faster and gets me into the action quicker. TRY IT!! It WORKS 🙂

5. DO IT, CAUSE YOU CAN’T!!

Totally the opposite. Based on Richard Branson’s book: Screw It Let’s Do IT, life is too short not to take disruptive actions in your life. You have a purpose in life, though bungee jumping might not be the purpose you were born to do (and I hope not), allowing yourself to bungee jump will only unlock many hidden potentialities. The reward of getting over a physical fear will make many other decisions a lot easier. It will build confidence, a sense of achievement and narrows down life to its basic elements: life and death.

So yeah, DO IT CAUSE YOU CAN!!!
